With an in-depth understanding of federal, state, and local regulations and the challenges that can arise from them, our attorneys have the breadth and depth of experience to guide clients through all legal matters related to the production, distribution, and sale of regulated products such as alcohol, food, lottery, and medical cannabis. For instance, at the federal level, we assist clients with compliance matters before the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), and the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). At the state and local level, we represent clients before Departments of Revenue, City Councils, County Commissions, local license review boards, and zoning departments. In addition, our attorneys and licensing professionals have also developed key relationships with various federal, state, and local governmental agencies and officials, which further contributes to our ability to creatively and efficiently address our clients’ needs.
We also understand how compliance, technology, and safety work together to deliver exceptional service. We are often asked to educate clients on state and local regulations tied to alcohol licensing and permitting. Our Responsible Alcohol Sales & Service (RASS) workshops are so highly regarded that they are now a prerequisite for obtaining an alcohol license in several jurisdictions. We also provide counsel on alcohol-related matters to a range of food and beverage trade associations.
Our team also includes seasoned arbitrators and mediators to assist with conflict resolution. However, if litigation is needed, we have experienced litigators who have substantial courtroom experience at the federal and state levels across the United States handling contract disputes, consumer and products liability litigation, labor and employment disputes, constitutional and antitrust challenges (i.e., Commerce Clause and Sherman Act), Dram Shop Litigation to the three-tier system for regulation of alcoholic beverages, and constitutional challenges to differential taxation of imported alcoholic beverages.
