Edmond Farrell is a partner with t|e General Counsel, Taylor English’s fractional general counsel practice. He provides general counsel and strategic business advice for start-up and scale-up, tech-enabled companies. His straightforward guidance and creative solutions are invaluable to founders, investors, executives, and boards. Mr. Farrell works primarily from Silicon Valley and has clients and offices in both northern (Menlo Park and San Francisco) and southern (Los Angeles, San Diego and Palm Desert) California.
Mr. Farrell has served several times as a company’s first general counsel or practice area leader, and particularly enjoys building from scratch and customizing a company’s legal function. As GC or legal and board advisor, he develops a legal coverage strategy and playbook that grows with the client. Mr. Farrell has served as board member for several non-profits, legal and healthcare associations and a New York hospital; an advisory board member; board liaison, and advisor to the board of a major investment bank association.
Mr. Farrell provides full-range corporate legal coverage, moving transactions forward while managing risk. His focus areas are real estate and construction, finance, acquisitions, startup structuring and healthcare. He is currently enhancing a legal practice for startups and creators, with AI, metaverse real estate, NFT projects and smart contract applications.
Prior to joining t|e General Counsel, Mr. Farrell was GC for two pioneer hospitality companies: AvantStay, a Los Angeles-based luxury short term rental brand and Stay Alfred, a Spokane startup that pioneered the branded urban travel apartment. As Managing Counsel, Global Real Estate for Oracle, he started and scaled the in-house legal function worldwide for the company’s 1,000-person global real estate, facilities, and construction division. He began his in-house career as Deputy General Counsel with Catholic Health in New York, where he focused on corporate and board matters, real estate, finance and healthcare transactions.
