Alan David Barson

Alan David Barson is a partner in Taylor English’s Corporate Department. Based in Miami, Florida, Mr. Barson focuses his practice on areas of corporate and business transactions, entertainment and sports, personal representation, international trade, technology, intellectual property, licensing, and brand management. Mr. Barson provides strategic guidance and works collaboratively to devise innovative solutions tailored to each client’s unique needs.

Throughout his career, Mr. Barson has represented a diverse clientele, including public media conglomerates, private companies, senior executives and creative talent across multiple industries such as recorded music and music publishing, film, television, theater, fashion, book publishing, and technology.

Prior to joining Taylor English, Mr. Barson held positions with preeminent entertainment and media law firms in New York City, where he represented a spectrum of clients including multiplatinum recording artists and songwriters, actors, screenwriters, photographers, models and influencers, entertainment and media companies, film studios, major & independent record companies, music publishers, cable networks, and concert promoters. He also served as Senior Vice President/Head of Business & Legal Affairs and General Counsel for London/Sire Records Group, then a mini-major label in the Warner Music Group, overseeing an in-house legal department for Sire’s New York, Los Angeles and London based operations in record manufacturing and distribution, and music publishing.

Mr. Barson also served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York City, teaching the highly regarded “Entertainment Lawyering” seminar, fulfilling a passion to mentor and inspire the next generation of legal professionals.

Before his legal career, Mr. Barson was active in the London music industry, gaining valuable experience as a recording engineer, record producer, manager, and publisher. He also contributed to software development for the Fairlight CMI, a digital audio workstation and synthesizer. Mr. Barson also served on the executive committee of the Young Variety Club of Great Britain, a foundation dedicated to the betterment of disabled and underprivileged children.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Mr. Barson enjoys family time, travel, and outdoor activities like hiking, skiing, and snowboarding. In January 2023, he competed in the Maccabe Winter Olympics as part of the Italian ski team, earning gold and silver medals in various events alongside his wife, who is also a gold medalist.
