William DeClercq is a member of Taylor English’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department, handling complex commercial disputes and real property actions. As a civil litigator and business advisor, he resolves disputes with a creative “aggressive but reasonable” strategy that focuses on achieving the client’s desired objectives, always considering the costs and benefits of any approach, while maintaining a healthy sense of humor.
Mr. DeClercq brings his unique personal approach to every valued client by emphasizing practical, cost-effective, tailored solutions to challenging legal problems. He represents a range of clients including small and large businesses, entrepreneurs, private individuals and Fortune 500 companies. His clients have included large banking and financial services companies, real estate investment trusts, federal government agencies, pharmaceutical companies, healthcare agencies, logistics firms, manufacturers, and retailers.
Mr. DeClercq’s representative engagements include creative resolution of actions involving employment practices, wage and hour class action defense, real estate disputes, partnership disputes and dissolution actions, claims of breach of fiduciary duty, securities fraud, consumer class actions, intellectual property litigation, patent enforcement actions multi-party tort litigation and other complex litigation.
He has been identified as a "Super Lawyer" and “Rising Star,” an honor conferred on less than 3 percent of practicing attorneys in California. He is actively involved in pro bono and public interest representation, including adoptions, immigration, and education advocacy.
He is a member of TED’s Social Justice Task Force and engages regularly in volunteer efforts to fight voter suppression.
Mr. DeClercq is trained as an actor and comedic improviser, has performed with the Conservatory Program at Second City Hollywood, and produces and performs independent sketch and improv comedy shows, including “Law and Disorder, LIVE!” He is the host of a weekly law and comedy podcast, “Laying Down the Law with Billy DeClercq, Esq.,” in which he breaks down and explains real legal cases which then become the basis for improvised comedy.
Mr. DeClercq is the proud husband to a neuroscientist, author and speaker who has founded a non-profit. Her work is dedicated to enhancing lives through a holistic approach that integrates developing positive thought processes, cultivation of self-compassion, and awareness of bodily sensations with our environment. These teachings and practices inspire Mr. DeClercq and his family to seek to live mindfully, with gratitude and humility.
Mr. DeClercq and his life partner keep busy with their son, and their "fuzzy child," a miniature Australian Shepherd.
