Taylor English is an innovative law firm that puts clients first. Being at Taylor English allows me to work with biotech, institutional, and start-up clients and respond efficiently to their complex intellectual property matters – all while providing my services in a cost-effective and value-driven manner.

Siegfried J.W. Ruppert, Ph.D., is a Partner in Taylor English’s Intellectual Property Department. Dr. Ruppert focuses his practice on representing U.S. and foreign clients, including start-up companies, in matters regarding patent prosecution, patent litigation, patent interference, patent infringement analysis and opinion work. Dr. Ruppert has utilized his background as a scientist at Genentech, Inc. and his Ph.D. in Biological Sciences to represent clients in an expansive range of patent subject matters related to biotechnology, life sciences and devices.

As Special Counsel with an AmLaw 100 full-service law firm, and as IP Attorney with a multinational business firm headquartered in Atlanta, Dr. Ruppert efficiently managed clients’ U.S. and international patent portfolios, productively worked with clients’ in-house counsel, and effectively represented corporate and start-up companies in the areas of pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, diagnostics, medical devices, and UV devices. He also counseled clients in opinion matters (freedom-to-operate, infringement, patentability and patent validity). Recently, Dr. Ruppert published several articles on biosimilars. He frequently speaks on diverse subject matters ranging from biosimilars to patent eligibility both in the U.S. and abroad.

Prior to his legal career, Dr. Ruppert worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Ruprecht-Karls University of Heidelberg, Germany, and at the University of California, at Berkeley, co-authored approximately 40 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals, and also became an inventor on a number of U.S. patents.

Dr. Ruppert obtained his law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, and graduated from the Ruprecht-Karls University of Heidelberg in Heidelberg Germany with a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences.
