Raquel Stokes has more than 14 years of litigation experience handling high-risk litigation disputes for various industries including government institutions and corporate clients. Ms. Stokes helps defend her clients, negotiate on their behalf, and prepare them for trial in the defense of bodily injuries, property damage, medical malpractice, premises liability, and auto liability claims.
While with Progressive Insurance Company, she acted as House Legal Counsel, representing insureds and Progressive Insurance Company in moderate exposure of bodily injury and property damage lawsuits. Ms. Stokes deftly managed the litigation process including drafting and responding to discovery, reviewing and analyzing medical records, negotiating case settlements and more.
As a litigation associate with an Atlanta-based law firm which focused on personal injury and medical malpractice, Ms. Stokes managed medical malpractice, premises liability, and auto liability claims among other insured risk matters. She interviewed and prepared lay witnesses, 30(b)(6) witnesses and expert witness for deposition and trial. She drafted, prepared and argued motions for Summary Judgement and other dispositive motions.
Ms. Stokes was the Chief Senior Assistant District Attorney to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office. She visited crime scenes to perform field investigations and gained First Chair Trial Experience on more than 25 complex cases in the Crimes Against Women and Children (CAWAC) and Homicide Divisions. Additionally, Ms. Stokes consulted with doctors, medical examiners and nurses to determine theories of cases based on injuries or manner of death and prepared expert witnesses for trial.
Awarded the Attorney of the Year Award for 2012 for her outstanding track record, she was honored with the Lewis Slaton Highest Achievement Award from the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.
Ms. Stokes is heavily involved in her community and is a member of the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association, Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys (GABWA), Gate City Bar Association, and Delta Sigma Theta Society.
She earned her undergraduate degree in Business Management from the University of Georgia and her juris doctorate from Howard University School of Law.
