David Lhota is a partner with the firm’s Intellectual Property Department. Mr. Lhota is a registered patent attorney and Florida Bar certified expert in intellectual property. He focuses his practice on protecting, enforcing and defending clients’ valuable intellectual property rights, including patents, trademarks and copyrights.
Mr. Lhota has more than 25 years of experience obtaining patent, trademark and copyright registrations for his clients, drafting and negotiating licenses, intellectual property sales agreements, marketing agreements, non-compete agreements and related business contracts and enforcing and defending intellectual property rights in federal and state courts. He works with clients to seamlessly guide them in bringing their inventions from conception to market as well as branding their products and services. Mr. Lhota has enforced and defended clients’ valuable intellectual property rights in federal and state courts, including the United States Patent & Trademark Office, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Florida state courts and other U.S. District Courts pro hac vice.
Mr. Lhota has broad patent prosecution experience in a wide-range of electronics, eletcro-mechanical and mechanical fields, including software, mobile communication apps, control systems, wireless networks and communications, computers, local area networks, server data traffic management, intelligent controllers, electro-hydraulic and pneumatic control systems, automated measuring instruments, radios, medical instrumentation, medical food, marine equipment, sports equipment, toys and games.
Prior to joining Taylor English, Mr. Lhota founded and led his own firm for eight years. Before attending law school, he served as an Electrical Systems Design Engineer with Sikorsky Aircraft and Hamilton Standard, both Divisions of United Technologies Corporation. While working at Sikorsky, Mr. Lhota designed and developed software driven electro-hydraulic test systems for performing static and dynamic stress analysis testing on aircraft and aircraft components, including transmissions, rotors, blades, and servos. During his time with Hamilton Standard, he helped develop software driven diagnostic test systems for performing diagnostic testing on electronic engine controls, environmental control systems and fuel controls.
