Edward Livingston brings more than 40 years of experience in the field of intellectual property law to Taylor English. In addition to his work with patents, Mr. Livingston has worked with trademarks, service marks, trade dress, trade secrets, copyrights, franchising, and litigation. He has enforced his clients’ intellectual property rights in patent, trademark and copyright infringement cases in court as well as defended his clients’ rights such cases, even against large retail corporations. His broad range of experience and many years in the field has led to him being Board Certified by the Florida Bar as an expert in intellectual property law.
Prior to joining Taylor English, Mr. Livingston led his own boutique intellectual property law firm for more than 30 years. He previously worked in Miami and Orlando on patent, business, real estate, and bankruptcy matters. Mr. Livingston has developed experience working with patents in multiple industries, including medical devices, golf and other sports, computer software, jewelry, plants, tools, machinery, nanotechnology, novelty items, agriculture and farm equipment, pet related items, and business methods. In the field of trademark and copyright, Mr. Livingston has helped his clients obtain trademarks for product names and businesses as well as copyrights for jewelry, books, music, and architecture.
In addition to his broad range of experience across industries as a patent lawyer, Mr. Livingston has technical experience of his own. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, worked for Pratt & Whitney aircraft developing engines for space shuttles, and served over four years on active duty in the Air Force as a Nuclear Missile Launch Officer. After leaving the Air Force, Mr. Livingston remained involved in the military, serving as a Judge Advocate General (JAG) in the Air Force Reserve and retired as a lieutenant colonel. This experience gives him both the technical and legal knowledge with which to assist his clients.
In his spare time, Mr. Livingston is devoted to charities that help animals and children. He has provided pro bono services to the Boys and Girls Club and the Freedom Waters Foundation, a charity that serves disabled or disadvantaged children. He has also served as a Guardian ad Litem and is a leader for Boy Scouts and youth sports. Mr. Livingston is also actively involved in the Naples Pelican Bay Rotary, where he is a former president.
