"(Un)Complicating Unbundling: A GC Primer," Daily Report

March 14, 2016

In an article published on March 4, 2016, by the Daily Report, Marc A. Taylor discusses ways for GCs to simplify the complicated unbundling of legal work traditionally outsourced to law firms. The article outlines seven governing rules that GCs can follow when unbundling, including identifying those traditional law firms that marry exceptional advice with a best practices approach to legal delivery, seeking out alternative firms that leverage technology to fundamentally reengineer the delivery of legal services, distinguishing competitors from collaborators, creating an internal operational role to oversee collaborators, aligning incentives, avoiding subscale pilots and performing post-mortem. Mr. Taylor and his co-author Susan Lichtman emphasize, “When done right, unbundling is an investment that will pay significant rewards, while signaling the next chapter of legal department operations and efficiency.” For the full article, you may visit the Daily Report website.
