Taylor English's Daraka Satcher Appointed to Georgia Budget and Policy Institute Board

December 14, 2017

ATLANTA, Dec. 14, 2017 – Taylor English Duma LLP is pleased to announce that Daraka E. Satcher has been named to the board of the Georgia Budget and Policy Institute (GBPI). As a board member, Satcher will help GBPI develop strategies and provide guidance to the organization as it analyzes Georgia's state budget, taxes and public policies to highlight solutions that help build a more prosperous Georgia for all. His term begins January 1.

“Serving this organization that tirelessly dedicates itself to bettering the state of Georgia is a very exciting opportunity,” said Satcher. “There are frequent developments at the state level that could directly impact the operations of a company or organization. Often, simply being aware of these developments allows for adequate preparation and planning.”

At Taylor English, Satcher serves as a policy advisor, assisting organizations in complying with government practices that affect their industries and their bottom lines. Satcher helps clients identify opportunities and threats, shaping their strategic positioning, and finding common ground with legislators.

“We are thrilled to have Daraka Satcher join the GBPI board of directors. GBPI will benefit from Daraka’s leadership, skills and knowledge of public policy and government affairs from his years on Capitol Hill and consulting,” said Taifa Smith Butler, Executive Director of GBPI. “As a director, Daraka will be able to bring his expertise, nonprofit service and passion to bear by helping to guide our work as we focus on building a more inclusive economy so that everyone can participate and thrive.”

Satcher has years of experience advising clients on government affairs issues. Prior to joining the firm, he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. Department of Commerce. In that capacity, he managed the legislative and intergovernmental operations of the Office of the Secretary and the twelve Commerce bureaus and served as a primary advisor to the Secretary of Commerce on legislative strategy and coordination with state and local governments.

Additionally, he also spent close to a decade working in both the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives where he served as chief of staff to Representative Hank Johnson (GA-4).

A graduate of the Leadership Atlanta Class of 2014, he also serves on the boards of the Georgia District Export Council, Voorhees College, and the Ghana International Chamber of Commerce.

Satcher earned his undergraduate degree from Morehouse College and his law degree from Emory University School of Law. He currently serves on the advisory board for Morehouse College's Andrew Young Global Leadership Center.
