Taylor English Expands Into Massachusetts with the Addition of Partner Michael Burwick
BOSTON, December 14, 2020 – Taylor English Duma LLP is pleased to announce its expansion into the Massachusetts market with the addition of Michael Burwick as a partner in the firm’s Corporate Department in Boston, where he focuses on securities law, entertainment, sports and media law and tax law.
With more than 25 years of legal and financial services industry experience, Burwick serves as a trusted advisor to his clients, guiding them through adherence to complex tax and securities law provisions, maintenance and compliance issues and the resolution of controversies. He also has experience advising clients in a wide range of tax and securities matters, including capital gains liability concomitant to the disposition of highly appreciated assets, investment in Qualified Opportunity Zones, the formation of Qualified Opportunity Funds and the use of Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs).
Burwick has a deep knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code, state and local tax regulations, the Securities Act of 1933, the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, the Investment Company Act of 1940 and the rules and regulations promulgated and enforced by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).
Additionally, Burwick provides counsel on various types of public and private offerings, including the use of crowd sourcing and crowd funding and private offerings made pursuant to Regulation D. Brokers and dealers, registered investment advisers and asset managers rely on his breadth of skills to guide them through intricate legal matters and compliance issues.
In addition to his role at the firm, Burwick serves as General Counsel to Asset Strategy Holdings and its various subsidiaries that include Asset Strategy Advisors (ASA). ASA is an independent, fee-based, consulting and investment advisory firm.
Burwick frequently writes and speaks on a wide range of securities law and tax law matters. Outside of his legal practice, he serves on the Board of Directors of Autism Speaks (New England) and the Georgetown Law Advisory Board. He also plays an active philanthropic role at The New England Center for Children (NECC), a residential and day program serving autistic children since 1975. Burwick is actively involved in the Alternative & Direct Investment Securities Association, National Society of Compliance Professionals, and the Securities Industry & Financial Markets Association.
Burwick earned his bachelor’s degree from Boston University and his law degree and Master of Law degrees from Georgetown University.
