Taylor English Attorneys Jeffrey R. Kuester and Michael A. Cicero Update “Intellectual Property Litigation” Chapter of the 2022 Edition of Georgia Business Litigation
Atlanta, September 2, 2020 – Taylor English Duma LLP is pleased to announce that partner Jeffrey R. Kuester and attorney Michael A. Cicero have updated the “Intellectual Property Litigation” chapter of the 2022 edition of Georgia Business Litigation, published by ALM Media Properties, LLC.
The chapter, which debuted in the 2016 edition of the publication, underwent updates for the 2017, 2018, and 2020 editions. The 164-page chapter provides updates on decisions from Georgia courts in 2019 – 2021 addressing trademarks and copyrights, as well as recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions on these subjects. The updates feature new sections written by Mr. Cicero covering trademark ownership, sovereign immunity defenses to both trademark infringement and copyright infringement, and the “government edicts doctrine,” a copyright infringement defense.
Mr. Kuester co-chairs Taylor English’s intellectual property department and leads its patent department. He handles all types of intellectual property issues, including litigation, preparation and counseling. As a registered patent attorney, Mr. Kuester has been preparing and prosecuting patents for more than 30 years, and also has extensive trademark and copyright experience.
Mr. Kuester currently serves as a special assistant attorney general for the State of Georgia for intellectual property matters. He is also a former adjunct professor of intellectual property law at Georgia State University College of Law, where he serves as vice chair of the Intellectual Property Advisory Board and organizer of the Corporate IP Institute.
Mr. Cicero focuses his practice on patent prosecution and preparation of opinions. His work also extends to trademark prosecution and copyright matters. Mr. Cicero possesses patent prosecution experience in the mechanical and electromechanical arts, and he drafted patents and dozens of office action responses and petitions. He also has substantial intellectual property litigation experience.
