Annual Corporate IP Institute
On October 22 and 23, 2018, Coby Nixon and Jeff Kuester, along with David Hricik, will present at the 12th Annual Corporate IP Institute. This year’s Corporate IP Institute is chaired by Chason Carroll and provides a full year of CLE, including Ethics & Professionalism.
Mr. Nixon will lead a panel discussion, What Are The Various Career Paths For The IP Attorney, as moderator of a panel of in-house attorneys that began their careers in traditional IP roles, including as outside IP counsel, but decided to branch out and up within their respective companies. Discussion topics will include practical tips and considerations for those thinking of making similar shifts in their careers.
Mr. Hricik, Professor of Law, Mercer University School of Law, will speak on, “How Technology Creates Professionalism Issues.” Curt texts, abusive emails, and unprofessional voicemails are all examples of unprofessional and uncivil conduct technology seems to permit more readily. This session will analyze the various challenges technology creates for civil yet zealous and competent representation, and provide suggestions for ways to address those challenges.
Mr. Kuester will speak on, “State Bar of Georgia Ethics Update,” which provides an update on The Office of General Counsel (OGC) for the State Bar of Georgia which has expanded investigative powers and new jurisdiction to initiate disciplinary grievances against attorneys. Also discussed is the Lawyer Assistance Program which has added a new Peer Program to assist attorneys.
