"Why I…Collect Contemporary Art," Daily Report

January 21, 2014

For the Daily Report’s ongoing “Why I…” column, Melissa (Missi) McMorries was interviewed for her collection of contemporary art. In the article, McMorries traces her passion for contemporary art back to a visit to New York’s Museum of Modern Art to see a Jackson Pollack exhibit. It was here that she realized the pieces struck a chord with her emotions and subconscious. Since 1973, she has primarily focused her collection on Georgia contemporary art and her current collection includes more than 50 pieces, including paintings, sculptures, photographs, ceramics, and other objects. To support local artists, she was on the board of the Atlanta Contemporary Arts Center and is a member of MOCA-GA. For the full article, Daily Report subscribers can view it here.
