Bill Clineburg is a member of the firm’s Business and Commercial Litigation group. He has been involved in high stakes, complex business litigation on behalf of corporations for more than 37 years. During that time he has successfully litigated both jury and non-jury, individual and class action matters in state and federal courts throughout the United States, and argued appeals in a number of state and federal appellate courts. He has also effectively utilized formal and informal means of alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and arbitration. For example, he has:
- successfully defended an insurance business sued in arbitration by a statewide managing agent for wrongful termination, recovering a substantial counterclaim
- won a substantial jury verdict on behalf of German nationals who purchased South Georgia farmland in reliance on a fraudulent well report
- successfully represented a plaintiff who submitted millions of winning entries in an ill-conceived scratch-off game
- defended a tobacco company in smoking lawsuits
- served as an attorneys’ fees expert on behalf of an ERISA fiduciary
- defended VMI and the Citadel against the Justice Department’s effort to end single sex education.
Prior to joining Taylor English, Mr. Clineburg practiced with King & Spalding for 37 years, including 31years as a partner. Prior to joining King & Spalding, he served as law clerk to the Honorable Roger Robb, Judge, U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, from 1970 to 1971.
