Tom Dickson

Tom Dickson

Tom Dickson concentrates his practice on the resolution of complex commercial disputes, representing companies, governmental entities, and individuals in negotiations and litigation in the state and federal courts. Mr. Dickson’s practice over the course of more than twenty years has involved a wide range of successful representations in a variety of industries. He has both pursued and defended against claims of fraud and misrepresentation, breach of commercial agreements, civil RICO, unfair and deceptive trade practices, breach and enforcement of non-competition agreements, copyright, trademark and tradedress infringement, breach of fiduciary duties, discrimination and civil rights cases, and professional malpractice. Significant representations have included a consumer product manufacturer in a national trademark and tradedress infringement case, an international car rental firm in a civil RICO action, the FDIC and the RTC in professional malpractice and officer and director liability litigation arising from large bank failures, an international chemical and consumer product manufacturer in products liability matters, a national construction and military contracting firm in breach of contract claims, a well-known television news anchor and talk show host in contract negotiations, as well as claims involving one of the world’s largest discount retailers, an international theme park and entertainment company, a large insurance conglomerate, a foreign manufacturing firm, lending institutions, a national trucking firm, and state and local governments nationwide. Representative clients have included the states of Florida and Hawaii, Pizza Hut, Inc., Schneider National, Inc., The Monsanto Company, Gaylord Container Corporation, Hospice of Hillsborough, Intercontinental Hotels Group, and Alamo Rent-A-Car, LLC. Mr. Dickson has served as lead counsel in federal jury trails and before federal appellate courts, as well as having significant experience in mediations, arbitrations, and the resolution of commercial disputes without resort to litigation.

Mr. Dickson graduated with distinction from Rollins College with a double major in business administration and communications. In 1986 he graduated with honors from the University of Florida College of Law, placing in the top 5% of a class of over 200 and earning membership in the Order of the Coif. While there, he served as Senior Editor of the University of Florida Law Review. He went on to obtain a master of laws from Columbia University School of Law. After graduating from law school, Mr. Dickson joined the national firm of Baker & Hostettler. He subsequently joined Carlton, Fields, where he developed his practice focusing on bank failure litigation and the resolution of commercial real estate disputes. He was selected as a “Leading American Attorney” by the American Research Corporation for his work representing individuals and business entities in negotiations and litigation.

Mr. Dickson is married to a well-known and respected federal mediator. They have three children, one of whom is on the autistic spectrum. Mr. Dickson founded and is the executive director of the Child-Centered Resolutions Project, which provides school districts and parents nationwide with a mechanism for resolving special education disputes without litigation. He lives on a small horse farm north of Atlanta, with too many animals to mention.
