Business Litigator Mickey Ross Joins Taylor English

Atlanta – May 12, 2010 – Law firm Taylor English Duma LLP has added a seasoned business litigator to its ranks.

Mickey Ross, who comes to Taylor English after 34 years at King & Spalding and the past two years with Greenberg Traurig, brings a “lawyer’s lawyer” sophistication to the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice group, said partner Foy Devine.

“Mickey is a recognized and accomplished business litigator who will add great talent, experience and wisdom to our already versatile team of litigators,” said Devine, who leads the firm’s practice group. “From class actions to cutting edge legal problems, Mickey has rightly earned the reputation as the attorney other attorneys go to when they’re faced with complex litigation issues.”

Ross, a Harvard Law School graduate, has a long track record of successful litigation and arbitration:

  • For a national private university, he defeated an alleged class action brought by former students claiming fraud and misrepresentation.
  • Representing a major financial services firm, Ross successfully defended a lawsuit in California seeking class-action status, compelled plaintiffs’ claims into individual arbitrations in Georgia, and favorably resolved the case.
  • While representing a large public school system, he successfully defended against an ACLU alleged class action claiming the education, discipline and search procedures at an alternative school for disruptive and low-performing students were unconstitutional and in violation of Georgia statutes.
  • Representing the former CFO of an acquired company in arbitration, Ross recovered over $2 million in severance benefits.

Since being founded in 2005, Taylor English has grown steadily. Ross’s arrival follows the April addition of international attorney Rich Kaye from Arnall Golden Gregory LLP. Over the past 16 months, Taylor English has added 30 attorneys.

Ross said he was attracted to Taylor English primarily because of its first-class attorneys, collegiality, and Atlanta-based management.

“I wanted to get back to an environment where all the important decisions are made locally and most of the folks I work with are right down the hall,” Ross said of the 80-attorney firm. “Taylor English is nimble and operates like an efficient start-up. In addition, I get to be around so many well respected and talented attorneys—many of whom are former colleagues and friends.”

Ross, a past president of the State Bar of Georgia’s Antitrust Section, also has significant experience with trade regulation and unfair competition issues and has published over 20 articles in this area.

From 2004 to 2009, Ross was an adjunct professor in the Litigation Program at Georgia State University’s College of Law.
